RIP Hermy de Windt

Category: News, Shortcuts Posted 14.02.13 12:14 by

1982 Dutch National Rallycross Champion of the +1600 category Hermy de Windt has passed away last week.

The crew of ERC24 is sad to announce the recent death of former Dutch Rallycross champion Hermy de Windt. The man from Hulst in the Dutch province of Zeeland passed away on Tuesday, February 5, being 67 years old. Hermy was one of the early days Rallycross drivers in the Netherlands who got interested in the sport at his local tracks in Axel (Watertorencircuit) and Rilland-Bath (Scheldecircuit), before he started to compete in international events at Valkenswaard. With a BDA powered Ford Escort RS1800 de Windt claimed the 1982 National Dutch Rallycross Championship title for drivers with cars equipped with engines over 1600cc. For 1985 he bought the rear-wheel driven Ford Escort Mk3 2.1 of his compatriot Ed van Schie to compete in the International Dutch Rallycross Championship, the first year finishing 9th overall and equal on points with Belgian François Monten. In 1986 Hermy became the Int. Dutch Rallycross Championship runner-up to series winner, the late Piet Dam, before ending his Rallycross career. Godspeed, Hermy, and Rest In Peace! Our deepest sympathie is with his family and friends.
