05-07-2015 18:18 : Mattias Ekström, who crossed the finish line in second place, has been declared the winner of WorldRX of Sweden at Höljes. Timmy Hansen has been made runner-up and Andreas Bakkerud takes home third place. Hansen first got a 5 seconds penalty (for pushing and driving outside the track) that would have dropped him from first to fourth place. However, the Stewards of the Meeting changed their decision in Hansen’s favour after checking several video clips. (EL)

Surprise of the day was homeboy MINI 1.6 SuperCar driver Guy Wilks who suffered from a puncture early in the Final to eventually finish sixth overall. (EL)
17-05-2015 16:15 : At the end of Day 2 Finn Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen wins the all decisive Final of the WorldRX of Belgium round at Mettet for the second year back-to-back. Norwegian Petter Solberg, who had to do two Joker Laps for a jump start in his Semi-Final, but nevertheless finished second here, eventually made it to runner-up while Latvian Reinis Nitišs completed the winners podium in third place. In Heat 1 it was the EKSRX team principal who set the fastest time, in Heat 2 Timmy Hansen was quickest. However, Solberg holds place 1 of the overnight standings now, Ekström is in 2nd position. Therefore his Mitsubishi Lancer E10 has been heavily revised and will be at least 80bhp stronger than before. “The engine was completely dismantled and has been equipped with a new bigger turbocharger. A statement of ESPN reads: “We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however, the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path. The formats of the FIA European Rallycross Championships for the support categories, TouringCar and Super1600, are maintained, with the calendar comprising the European events in the World Championship. The format of the European Championship for the flagship category, SuperCar, will be adapted and concentrated over five of the 10 European events in the World Championship. This will also have a specific classification for non-permanent drivers not entered in the entirety of the World Championship.”
25-09-2013 17:16 : In Sweden it was decided that next year the STCC series has Rallycross events running alongside its Touring Car races. The new championship will carry the name ‘Rallycross SuperCar Scandinavia’ and will consist of a total of six events, of which four run under STCC auspices. Three STCC Rallycross events will be run at Ring Knutstorp, Mantorp Park and Tierp Arena, while the fourth venue is not decided yet. Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) and OlsbergsMSE (OMSE) have already agreed to take part.

Today it was released that the son of ex-Rallycrosser Bengt Ekström will also participate in the Swedish RallycrossRX round at Höljes. Ekström has not driven in a true Rallycross competition yet, but has claimed four overall victories in as many ‘Race of Champion’ (ROC) events between 2005 and 2009.

16-02-2013 11:05 : It seems that Norwegian Torleif Lona is eventually ready to enter the European Rallycross scene – after a delay of some years. The former SuperNational competitor, who yesterday became 28 years of age, has been working on a TouringCar project with a rear-wheel driven Ford Fiesta Mk7 (based on an Olsbergs MSE body) since at least 2010. However, it has been claimed that the car is 99% ready and that Lona Motorsport is preparing to enter the 2013 FIA/IMG European Rallycross Championship kick-off at Lydden Hill.
15-02-2013 22:18 : Round 4 of the German Rallycross Championship (DRX), to be held on August 31 and September 1 at the Driving Center Groß Dölln, will also count as Round 5 towards the Danish Rallycross Championship. Thereby, the Danes returning to race in Germany after a break of three years.
15-02-2013 16:17 : Sjaak Noordermeer, chairman of the Eurocircuit organisers NRV at Valkenswaard to the Dutch press: “Our aim is not to compete against the FIA European Rallycross Championship. With the Rallycross Challenge we rather want to close the emerged gap between the ERX and the NLRC. What we want is a European series that is payable voor organisers and drivers alike.”

14-02-2013 14:51 : Petter Solberg has confirmed to compete in Round 1 (Lydden Hill in Great Britain) of the 2013 ERX. Martin Anayi, Managing Director of RallycrossRX, said: “We are extremely pleased that Petter has committed to competing in the first round of the Championship. Petter is part of a fantastic line-up of drivers which we will be announcing in the coming weeks.”

Former Director for the ‘NASCAR K&N Pro Series’ Mancari will be responsible for all aspects of competition and will oversee inspection of the cars and event officiating.

09-02-2013 17:35 : Petter Solberg, 2013 Rallycross returnee, and his wife Pernilla Solberg, daughter of 1980 European Rallycross Champion Per-Inge Walfridsson, have won the 2013 ‘Rally Sweden Historic’ with their Ford Escort RS1800. Per-Ove Davidsson, 1987 European Rallycross Champion, drove his Volvo 240 Turbo to 5th place overall.

06-02-2013 12:22 : From US info we understand that Ford is launching its 2013 GRC/Global X Games programme during the Chicago Auto Show (open to the public from February 9 to 18). OMSE is going to present its new Ford Fiesta Mk7 SuperCars, based on the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST that goes on sale later this year. Two cars will be driven by Tanner Foust and Brian Deegan.

04-02-2013 14:24 : According to the French purerallycross.com website the Rallycross oganisers of France are set to launch their own AFOR challenge for foreign competitors, to be run under the tag ‘Top 10 SuperCars Open’. Interested SC drivers need to enter a minimum of four FRC rounds, two of the four events must be the rounds of the 2013 European Rallycross Challenge (ERC), Essay in May and Kerlabo in July. However, if foreign competitors are keen to fight for the official French Rallycross titles they need to participate under a racing licence of the French ASN FFSA.
03-02-2013 20:16 : As American allround racer Travis Pastrana has commited to do more NASCAR events in 2013 his seat in the GRC/Global X Games Dodge Dart Rallycross SuperCar will most of the times be taken by compatriot Bryce Menzies. Menzies has recently tested the OMSE built Dodge Dart at the DirtFish Rally School grounds at Snoqualmie near Seattle and is awaiting the season start with confidence.
03-02-2013 15:21 : The spectator ticket prices for the rounds of the 2013 FIA/IMG ERX series have been discussed among Rallycross fans for quite some time now. For the first round at Lydden Hill ERC24 found the following rates at the seetickets.com website: Standard Weekend Pass = about €40 [£35], VIP tickets for Sunday and Monday = about €138 [or rather two times £60].

31-01-2013 22:44 : ERC24 has been informed that the 2013 FIA/IMG ERX series will not be run with the planned ‘Round Robin’ system. Instead all classes are going to do four Qualifying Heats with timing, followed by two Semi-Finals and one Final.

31-01-2013 09:00 : Petter Solberg today released the news that he will be back to Rallycross action this year. “It feels a bit like coming home,” claimed the 2003 World Rally Champion, who started his motorsport career back in 1992 in Rallycross. Solberg revealed that he is preparing his own Citroën DS3 SuperCar [based on a bodyshell that came to him via Hansen Motorsport] in his workshops at Torsby in Sweden to take part in either the new FIA/IMG ERX series [10 rounds] or in GRC as well as Global X Games events [a total of 9 rounds, 5 plus 4].

28-01-2013 12:25 : Timmy Hansen, the older son of 14-times European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen, has announced that he is set to change from single-seater racing to Rallycross. Timmy unveiled his 545bhp strong Hansen Motorsport Citroën DS3 SuperCar for the 2013 FIA/IMG European Rallycross Championship during the Stockholm Lifestyle Motor Show last weekend.
28-01-2013 12:01 : The ‘Circuit de Faleyras’ near Bordeaux, venue of the French ERC rounds of 1995, 1999 and 2002, is in severe danger. The area of the track has recently been sold by the General Council of the department Gironde, thereby making its motorsport future rather unpredictable.
25-01-2013 18:18 : The Swedish Touring Car association STCC today launched the 2014 ‘RallyX SuperCars Scandinavia’ series. The Rallycross events will be held under STCC’s wings, together with STCC events as well as at Rallycross only venues. The so-called ‘SuperCar Lites’ of OMSE will also feature in all of these events as an entry-level category that should ensure re-growth for the sport.

24-01-2013 12:06 : The Swedish team Hedströms Motorsport is set to enter the 2013 FIA/IMG European Rallycross Championship with two Škoda Fabia Mk2 SuperCars. Alongside Peter Hedström in an all-new car Norwegian 2009 ERC winner (in Division 2) Knut Ove Børseth is going to race the 2012 Fabia of Hedström in ‘Drive For Life’ livery.

22-01-2013 10:35 : The Swedish Hedströms Motorsport squad is set to do the 2013 FIA/IMG ERC with a two cars team. The second and all-new Škoda Fabia Mk2 SuperCar chassis has been built by Michael Jernberg and will be raced by Hedström himself, while a yet to be named Norwegian is going to drive Hedström’s 2012 car.
21-01-2013 20:26 : 2011 ERC runner-up and 2012 fourth overall in Super1600s Ulrik Linnemann to ERC24: “I can’t find big enough sponsors for 2013, so I only drive the ERC rounds of Norway and Sweden as well as the Danish Rallycross Championship.”
20-01-2013 11:45 : Münnich Motorsport has decided to enter the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) with three Seat Leon cars, one for Marc Basseng, one for Markus Winkelhock and one for team principal René Münnich himself. The German team has not yet taken a final decision upon its Rallycross future. René Münnich to ERC24: “The WTCC goes over a total of 13 races, and that does not leave enough time for a full Rallycross season. Nevertheless, a couple of selected Rallycross events we will also do.”
