The great Finale of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship at the SEMA show grounds in Las Vegas started with another gap jump crash when David Binks rolled his Ford Fiesta Mk7 SuperCar during early practice.

The great Global RallyCross Championship Finale at the SEMA show grounds in Las Vegas (Nevada) started yesterday with the first free practice sessions over a specially designed course at the so-called Gold Lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center area. The parking lot has been transformed into a Rallycross track at the eleventh hour with both, pavement and dirt sections as well as a 70-foot gap jump. A total of 13 drivers spent the Sunday afternoon acquainting themselves with the temporary race circuit.

British Rallycross ace David Binks had a big crash when trying to jump the 20+ metres wide gap, his almost 600bhp strong OMSE Ford Fiesta Mk7 SuperCar was in very bad state after the roll over its nose. Binks himself was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was released after examinations by the doctors and went back to meet his team. If the car will be ready for the racing to come is uncertain yet.

Three years in a row (2009, 2010, 2011) European Rallycross Champion Sverre Isachsen from Norway: “The track is good, it is like the tracks we have in Europe. We had a good first practice today and I’m very happy. The team has made another step forward with my Subaru since the last race, and we reached the podium there so I’m confident and very happy!”

American ERC regular and 2012 GRC series leader Tanner Foust to ‘Speed Freaks’: “This is going to be pretty brutal. This track is just narly so it’s going to be fun… This track is unique this year because it’s in a parking lot right across the street from the Convention Center in Las Vegas and SEMA is going on, so it’s not fitting into a NASCAR track as they have been all season. It’s pretty tight and technical and it’s got a dirt jump instead of a metal jump and then all the industry people from SEMA are going to walk across the street and pack the stands so it’s going to be pretty cool.”
