Ken’s Block Buster

Category: GRC, News Posted 22.03.13 16:24 by

Ken Block, the American “Hoonigan in Chief” and Global RallyCross Championship regular, has a new SuperCar now, produced by the WRC specialists of M-Sport.

Block’s all-new Ford Fiesta Mk7 machinery, built over the last five months by M-Sport in Great Britain, is made for his Global RallyCross Championship and Global X Games programme. His season is due to start between April 18 and 21 in the Brazilian town of Foz do Iguaçu with the first X Games event outside of the USA.

After a full day of testing his new block buster out Block was highly impressed. “I’m absolutely stoked on how this car has turned out”, said Block. “I know my Ford Fiesta Mk7 H.F.H.V. last year was awesome, but the RX43 is really on a whole new level. Malcolm [Wilson] and the team at M-Sport took all of our input and made some radical improvements. I’m feeling absolutely confident that I’ll have one of the best cars on the starting grid when we kick off the GRC season at Global X Games in Brazil next month. I can’t wait!”

“We turned to M-Sport on this build for a multitude of reasons”, said Hoonigan Racing Division’s team manager Derek Dauncey. “We learned a lot last year in Ken’s debut GRC season and we were able to take that information, pass it along to the engineering team at M-Sport and have them create an absolute beast of a racecar. Our car last year was quite good and Ken qualified first a few times, took silver at the Los Angeles X Games and led the majority of the final race in Las Vegas. To be entering this season with a car that’s so much improved upon an already great vehicle is great for Ken and the team.”

The Mk7 ST has been developed in collaboration between Block, Hoonigan Racing Division and Malcolm Wilson’s company M-Sport, that was responsible for the Ford’s WRC programmes over the past 16 years. The Rallycross SuperCar is a completely fresh build from the ground up. Starting with a base Ford Fiesta shell, M-Sport has taken their considerable years of experience and expertise and focused their efforts into creating the ultimate Rallycross vehicle for Block.
