FINRC/DRX/DKRC: Round-up

Category: Miscellaneous, News Posted 23.05.13 20:08 by

Beside X Games in Spain and the RCE event in France there had been some more Rallycross events over the Pentecost weekend, such as in Finland, Germany and Denmark.

FINRC: The Finnish Rallycross Championship had its kick-off on Saturday May 18 at the Kemoran Moottorirata at Veteli, a municipality in Western Finland, about 55kms south-east of the town of Kokkola. Blessed with sunny weather conditions the competition turned out fine. In the A final it looked as if Škoda campaigner Aki Karttunen would claim victory, until his Mk1 Fabia was hampered by technical problems. Now it was Citroën driver Janne Kanerva who with his C4 took advantage from Karttunen’s bad luck, but also not for long. Overall victory was eventually claimed by Ari Perkiömäki in a Ford Fiesta Mk6, while in the SRC category VW Scirocco Mk3 campaigner Peter Helenius won the event from runner-up Joni-Pekka Rajala.

DRX: The ADAC Safer-Driving Center Gründautalring at Gründau-Lieblos, about 40kms west of Frankfurt on the Main, hosted the second round of the German Rallycross Championship (DRX). Used in August 1987 for the first Rallycross event the venue by then had still very fine gravel sections on offer. But due to the demands of ADAC it was some years later that all loose track parts were covered with tarmac, therefore the circuit has a 100% sealed surface now. However, by special permission of the German ASN it is still in use for Rallycross and even for Autocross events [according to FIA rules Autocross has to be driven on all-dirt tracks]. While almost the entire event was run under bright sunshine it was for the all decisive finals that the weather changed completely and it started to rain.
