This year’s FIA European Rallycross Championship has come to an early end for Mats Lysen, the 2009 ERC winner is not competing in the remaining three RallycrossRX rounds.
This afternoon ERC24 was informed by Maskin & Asfalt AS, the main sponsors of Mats Lysen, that the company has finished their cooperation with the Norwegian Renault SuperCar campaigner with immediate effect. Even Hvaal, the owner of the 2013 Clio Mk3/5, claimed that this year’s poor results of the 2009 European Rallycross Champion (D1A) are the reason to cease their agreement with the 21-years-old. We understood that Mats will not participate the coming weekend at Lohéac in France and that another Norwegian has already been chosen to replace Lysen at Greinbach in Austria and Buxtehude in Germany. We were told that the new driver is going to be Tord Linnerud, the former Rally driver, who drove the 2012 Renault Clio Mk3/4 of Lysen to a remarkable 10th place overall in the Norwegian RallycrossRX round in Hell.
We asked Mats to comment on the latest news and got the following statement from him: “The reason why we have decided together to stop the programme for this season is that we are not happy with the speed of the new car. The car is currently not good enough for to fight for podium places.”
