WRX: Turning the Lites on

Category: ERC, News Posted 24.01.14 11:22 by

The FIA World Rallycross Championship adds OMSE delivered ‘RX Lites’ vehicles to a minimum of five of the twelve 2014 WorldRX events.

In the wake of yesterday’s OMSE press conference in Sweden IMG Motorsport has confirmed what has been rumoured for quite some time: The Turkish-Swedish built Lites vehicles will feature as a support class in the WorldRX series of 2014, for the first season of a multi-year agreement. The by OlsbergsMSE in 2013 as ‘GRC Lites’ in the US-based Global RallyCross series introduced formula runs identical subframe machinery with normally aspirated 300+bhp rear-engines and all-wheel drive systems, prioritising driver skill and close wheel-to-wheel racing over any other parameter, while keeping costs strictly to a minimum.

“We are delighted to announce that ‘RX Lites’ will be an integral part of the new FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014 and beyond,” said Martin Anayi, Managing Director of series promoter IMG Motorsport. “The formula is a proven success, and with organisations of the calibre of OlsbergsMSE and Avitas Motorsport [the Lites chassis builders in Turkey] behind the project, we are confident that entries will fill up fast.”

The 2014 series of at least five rounds will be run by First Corner, a London-based marketing company, and the cars will be delivered by Swedish Rallycross specialists and multiple GRC champions OlsbergsMSE. Drivers and their machinery will make a first appearance at WorldRX’s media launch in Italy in April.
