French professional skier, stunt performer as well as Rally and Rally Raid driver Guerlain Chicherit has set his focus on racing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
After claiming a total of four Freeriding World Championship titles in skiing (2000, 2002, 2006 and 2007), the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup of 2009 (together with Swedish female co-driver Tina Thörner), finishing once 5th (2010) and once 8th overall (2013) in the famous Dakar Rally, and successfully backflipping a MINI at Tignes in the French Alps (February 2013) Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit is now aiming to participate in the new FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX). Yesterday the 35-year-old from Paris took part in the testing sessions of Prodrive in Portugal, where several racers from different backgrounds were able to try their hands on the Rallycross MINI 1.6 SuperCar of the British company.
“I really want to have a go at Rallycross. I would love to do the full 2014 series, but we need to prepare for 2015. Therefore, it would maybe be better to learn the sport by doing just a few events this year. The MINI RX is the most powerful machinery I’ve ever driven, really sick. But it gives you a lot of confidence, as its handling is absolutely amazing. The car is easy to control, and its brakes are simply incredible,” claimed Chicherit afterwards.
