After recent test drives in the United States hat-trick European Rallycross Champion Sverre Isachsen is very confident about his 2014 Global RallyCross commitment.
Norwegian Sverre Isachsen has recently been to hard training sessions in the United States, prior to the kick-off of the 10 rounds Global RallyCross Series. “I’ve never been better prepared for one of the previous seasons,” claims the threefold European Rallycross Champion. Isachsen, at home in Hokksund, has travelled between America and his native Norway in recent weeks to test his all-new Subaru Impreza GR SuperCar ahead of this year’s GRC season, and the tests produced very good results.
“I’ve been twice to Atlanta for testing, and things have worked out very well. Now I’ll be over to Los Angeles to attend the press conference for the championship, before there will be another little test again. Then I need to be ready for the first race that will take place on the Caribbean island of Barbados, on May 18,” says he who is also known as “The Viking Warrior” to the American fans.
Red Bull has taken over as the promoter of the Global RallyCross series, and the energy drink giant is heavily investing now. One of this year’s novelties is that all the races will be broadcasted on NBC, one of America’s biggest TV channels. In addition, the new team of Volkswagen Motorsport, which will be run by the famous racing family Andretti, will attract a lot of interest for US RallyCross. Former Formula 1 ace Scott Speed and the presenter for Top Gear USA, Tanner Foust, are set to be the drivers for VW.
Speaking of Top Gear: The first race in Barbados goes along with the ‘Top Gear Festival’ on the island. This will bring their presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May to the RallyCross venue, as well as Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan. “It’s hard to believe what goes on in the GRC these days, I must admit. The interest in the series is huge now, and for me it is incredibly fun to be part of all this,” continues the Subaru campaigner, whose teammate will be once again American “Bucky” Lasek. “We still have tough competition from Ford, Volkswagen and the others, but I think they should be really alarmed this year. Our cars will be very good, and I certainly go for the overall victory,” concludes Isachsen.
