The two Swedes Pontus Tidemand and Mattias Ekström join forces to run Audi S1 SuperCars in the WorldRX series.
DTM star Mattias Ekström, who announced the other day to have set up a Rallycross team for the WorldRX series, today distributed the following media release:
My way
EKS will enter the 2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship with the brand-new Audi S1. “Our big hairy goal is to become the best RX team. For me it is also a personal goal that is about to be realised,” says Mattias Ekström.
“Rallycross appeals to me. It’s ‘back to the roots’ motorsport. During 2014 we will participate in as many races as possible in the World Championship. We see 2014 as a year of research and development for the team,” says Mattias. “Our ambition is to get the car, team and drivers to operate as one. But of course we also want to win races and put on a show for our partners, fans and RX audiences around the world.”
Car
“The fact that we are building an Audi might not come as a surprise to anyone. And we are proud to present the Audi S1 EKS RX Concept. We are developing the car ourselves with great support from talented co-workers and partners throughout Europe,” explains Ekström. “The goal is of course to build the best car. Whether we make it or not will soon be obvious,” concludes a smiling Ekström.
Driver
“Pontus Tidemand from Sweden will be our ‘No 1’ driver. He is one of the most talented young rally drivers out there and we believe strongly in his capabilities to deliver results.” Mattias continues: “He enjoys being given the opportunity to drive for EKS and feels motivated to be part of a team with a clear goal – to win races.” Pontus was born in 1990 and became Junior World Rally Champion 2013. Behind the wheel of the second car EKS will put a number of interesting wildcard drivers.
One more thing…
During week 21 (May 19 to 23) we will reveal everything about the team, our partners and the wildcard drivers. By then we will also present our complete race calendar. “EKS RX ‘n‘ Roll,” says a happy team owner Mattias Ekström.
