2015: Full WRX for Solberg?

Category: News, WRX Posted 23.10.14 21:56 by

According to Norwegian media Henning Solberg has been offered to drive the entire 2015 World Rallycross Championship series for free with the Monster Energy WorldRX Team.

While Henning Solberg is claimed to be in severe business problems with his companies today it was revealed by Norwegian press that he has been offered a free seat for the whole 2015 WorldRX series. After being the stand-in for the suspended team boss Liam Doran in the previous five WRX rounds the British Citroën squad seems to be more than happy with the results of the older brother of World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg and is seeking to extend the cooperation with Henning until the end of 2015.

However, Solberg the Older is uncertain of what to do: “I have been given time to think about the offer until next week, then I need to respond. It’s really tempting, but I would rather like to drive Rally instead of Rallycross. Rally is the bigger sport internationally, and for me offers also more fun to drive. Therefore, I would like to establish a good programme there, as this is what I most want to do. But now I need my thinking cap to come to a decision.”

Henning Solberg is not yet done with the running year. His plan is to drive the Wales Rally GB, the last 2014 WRC round, held from 13th to 16th of November. A fortnight later he has committed to do also the WorldRX Finale at San Luis in Argentina (November 28 and 29) for the Monster Energy World RX Team.

Meanwhile Norwegian financial newspaper ‘Finansavisen’ claims that all companies of Henning Solberg are struggling and operate in the red. His tyre/rims company ‘Dekknor Norge’ is said to have made a NOK4.7 Million [about 565,000.00 Euro] deficit in 2013. “As long as my family is doing well and I’m able to continue racing I’m happy. I’m living from sponsorship money. Since 2006 I have earned more than NOK100 Million [about 12 Million Euro] from all my sponsors, and I’m quite proud of that,” has 41-year-old Solberg been quoted the other day.
