The first international Rallycross event of the 2015 season was held at Maasmechelen in Belgium and saw homeboy Jochen Coox winning the SuperCars category from compatriot Jos Jansen and Dutchman Marcel Ottink.
It was not for the first time that the Duivelsbergcircuit at Maasmechelen started the international Rallycross year with its early March race, but this time the weather gods granted perfect conditions for the season opener. In SuperCars three entrants were eventually missing from the event: Jos Kuijpers (not ready with his new conquest yet?), Johnny Verkuringen (hindered by flu) and Ron Snoeck (out of the game after early technical problems).
2015 WorldRX regular Jos Jansen (Ford Focus Mk3) dominated the event during qualification, but after a poor start from the pole position of the Final and another early driving mistake the printing company owner had eventually to be content with second place overall. Full advantage for Jochen Coox here, the Volkswagen dealership owner drove his Scirocco Mk3 SuperCar to an unchallenged start-to-finish success.
Victory of the Super1600s category was claimed by Davy Van Den Branden and his Citroën DS3, Steve Volders powered his ‘almost as wide as long’ Ford Escort Mk1 to victory in the SuperNationals +2000 class while Steven Stessens made good use of his Vauxhall Corsa B to put himself on top of the winners rostrum in SuperNationals -2000.
