FIA World Rallycross have this morning confirmed that Swede Robin Larsson will enter all 12 rounds of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship returning again at the wheel of his own privately-run Audi A1 Supercar.
Robin Larsson will return to compete in all 12 rounds of the World Rallycross Championship, following a highly successful debut season with the pinnacle being an outstanding win at World RX of Argentina. Larsson has RX success in his veins. Robin gained the European Rallycross Championship title in 2014, with father Lars gaining multiple Swedish Rallycross Championships, topping his career with ERC titles in 2006 and 2007 with a Škoda Fabia Mk1 Supercar.
Robin speaks of his progress leading into 2016:
“We’ve updated the car with some parts and some new developments that we think will help us on the track,” explained Larsson. “I also learned a lot about the circuits: some were new for me so this year I’m coming back to all the tracks I’ve driven at least once before which will definitely help.”
“Consistency is very important: of course everybody wants to win every race, but I’ve learned that good tactics is critical to success. Last year I wanted to win as much as I could in the beginning but during the second half of the season I started to drive a lot more smartly and it really worked. I’m not here to make any friends – only good results for my future in the sport. All the teams are stepping up this year – the sport is getting bigger so it’s going to be a really tough year. We’re a small team compared to some of the bigger guys. So, this year I really need to be on my toes for every single race. I’m ready to kick of the season in Portugal with lots of motivation.”
The in-house team started their European Rallycross project back in early 2014, then announcing that they were working on an all-new Audi A1 Supercar, to be driven by the 21-years-old in all rounds of the new Swedish ‘RallyX SuperCar Scandinavia’ series as well as in at least four of the five Euro RX rounds.
Robin, finished the 2013 RallycrossRX series in the Touring cars as runner-up to Euro champ Derek Tohill from Ireland.
Back in 2014, Lars Larsson (Robin’s Father) spoke of the teams long-term plans:
“Our focus is long term, in the first year we are going to concentrate on winning the Swedish championship title as well as competing in as many as possible rounds of the new five rounds European Rallycross Championship (EuroRX). And, of course, we also look forward to take part in the Swedish round of WorldRX at Höljes,” says Larsson Senior and adds: “Our long term goal is to run the entire ERX series, before we move up to the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX).
This is now a goal that the team have succeeded in reaching, and will now look to continue to progress in the 2016 WRX season.
