RallycrossRX has announced the first confirmed event outside of Europe of the inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship to be staged in 2014.

Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R), in Québec, Canada will play host to one of the races in the series, which expands from its 2013 European format to a Worldwide series for the 2014 season. Taking place next August 7th and 8th, it will be part of a multi motorsport event that attracts an attendance in excess of 130,000 people.

“For the first time in 45 storied editions, le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières will be host to an FIA World Championship. We could not have imagined a better, more exciting anniversary present for our loyal fans,” said Dominic Fugère, General Manager of GP3R Inc. “Furthermore, with the Rallycross average fan being only 27 years old, welcoming the fastest growing motorsports in the world should prove to be like a dip in the fountain of youth for our event.”

The full calendar for the Championship, which will be based on a total of 12 events and is the only World Championship series officially sanctioned and endorsed by the FIA, is due to be confirmed early next month.

Martin Anayi, Managing Director of RallycrossRX for IMG Motorsports, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the first confirmed venue outside Europe of the new FIA World Rallycross Championship. We are confident that the success of this year’s FIA European Championship will transfer to the world stage, thereby increasing the sport’s fan base and exposure considerably. The speed with which these developments are taking place makes this a truly exciting time for RallycrossRX.”

IMG Motorsports was appointed as championship promoter of the FIA European Rallycross Championship last year, quickly securing support from the best drivers, teams and venues in the sport. It will once again work closely with IMG Media to maximise TV and digital coverage around the world, with over 55 broadcasters across more than 40 countries reaching 550 million homes in 2013 alone.
