Swedish racing all-rounder Mattias Ekström, who was raised up in the paddocks of the European Rallycross tracks when his father Bengt was an ERC regular, looks forward to Höljes.
A year ago I was given the opportunity to compete in Höljes as a guest driver. I made it to the finals and eventually finished in second place, despite a poor start. The joy I felt surprised me and gave me all the energy I needed to take the plunge and create my own team. Höljes was the starting point for EKS. From that day on I’ve focused on my return. Now I’m back with my own team – a feeling hard to describe.
It’s been one of the best journeys of my life. In many ways it has also been a journey back in time. When the decision was taken to create a team, there was nothing. Neither car, team or business partners. Kind of like when I started, many years ago. To once again become master of my domain has been enjoyable beyond recognition.
Over the years I’ve come to know many great people, each one with knowledge that has made this trip possible. All these people have contributed in a way that makes me happy and proud. Together we’ve created a team that cooperates better than any team I’ve worked for. We have moved mountains. There is still work to be done but we are getting closer to delivering what the team, our partners and I know we can. In Höljes I think we have the prerequisites – now it’s up to us to show what we can do.
