CEZ: Harsányi wins at home

Category: May, Miscellaneous, News Posted 18.05.12 18:29 by

Homeboy Zoltán Harsányi claims the SuperCars victory at Nyirád in Hungary while Austrian Klaus Freudenthaler takes the win of the Super1600s and Czech Roman Častoral the SuperNationals’ success.

The second round of the FIA Central European Zone Rallycross Championship was held at Nyirád in Hungary on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of May. Beside its CEZ status the event counted also as round 3 of the Austrian and Hungarian championship series as well as round 2 of the Czech and Polish Rallycross championships. Reigning European Autocross Champion Tamás Kárai (Škoda Fabia Mk1) set the fastest time in the first qualifying runs while fellow Hungarian Zoltán Harsányi (Mitsubishi Lancer E5) drove the fastest times in both, the second and third heats.

In the A final pole setter Harsányi took the lead and was dog-hounded for three laps by the hard charging Kárai while Austrian Tristan Ekker had to throw in his towel already in the first lap, due to engine troubles with his VW Polo. When Kárai’s Fabia became also hampered by technical problems Austrian Alois Höller (Ford Focus Mk1) was able to pass the Autocross star to eventually reach the chequered flag as runner-up to winner Harsányi. The last place on the Nyirádi Motorsport Centrum podium was claimed by Hungarian Attila Mózer (Škoda Fabia Mk2), Pole Łukasz Kabaciński (Mitsubishi Lancer E8) made it to fourth place.

Austrian Klaus Freundenthaler seems to be the winning force of the Super1600s, at Nyirád the Škoda Fabia Mk1 driver bagged his third victory in a row. The Czech siblings Stanislav Šusta (Škoda Fabia Mk2) and Josef Šusta (Škoda Fabia Mk1) claimed the second and third place to complete an all Škoda drivers podium. Among the SuperNational competitors Czech Roman Častoral (Opel Astra G) once again proved to be a stirrer. The 2006 European Rallycross Champion grabbed another victory while his compatriot Tomáš Hurt (Citroën C2) scored the second and homeboy Lajos Gyula (Seat Ibiza Mk2) the third place.
