Färén: Lites or SuperCars

Category: ERC, GRC, News Posted 01.11.13 15:24 by

Swedish Super1600 ace Eric Färén is set to move up a step in 2014, either to a full SuperCar Lites programme in the Global RallyCross Championship and the SRC/STCC or to a European Rallycross Championship attempt with a true SuperCar.

Swede Eric Färén (aka Erik Larsson) has announced the other day that he is planning to leave the Super1600s class to participate in a higher category next year. “I want to step up the Rallycross ladder and my main goal is to race a four-wheel driven SuperCar in the new European championship series in the making with its only five events. However, the GRC Lites championship in America is also an option for me in 2014. Maybe I need to do as many as possible races in a 4WD car in a series where all competitors use equal, good and reliable vehicles, rather than struggling in Europe with a poor SuperCar. Seen that the SuperCar Lites are going to run alongside the STCC in my native country of Sweden as well I rate it as an interesting alternative for the year to come,” reveals Färén, who is not interested in buying a car, but keen to become member of a team with good reputation.

On his way into the future the 23-years-old is now taking another chance to race. Färén is looking forward to participate in the SEMA Motor Show Finale of the Global RallyCross Championship, to be held on November 6 and 7 in Las Vegas. “Of course it’ll be an awesome experience just to be there, but I’m going for a good result,” says the team member of Hansen Motorsport. Färén will drive one of the SuperCar Lites of the Swedish OlsbergsMSE squad. It is a four-wheel drive car with a power output of almost 320bhp. The category had a good and well noted debut year in America and will be introduced in Sweden for the 2014 SRC season that is planned to run alongside the well established STCC series. Färén has tested the car on October 6 [the day after the 2013 SRC Finale] at the Kinnekulle Ring, a Racing/Rallycross venue situated a stone throw away from his home town of Götene. “I am glad to get that chance to compete with the Lites car already this year. It’s really a cool car and a good concept for the future,” claims the younger brother of Rallycrosser Johan Larsson.

Färén continues: “In the United States I’m going to race against a strong field of good drivers with much more valuable experience in those cars. There will be a lot to learn in only a few laps, so it will be all but easy. Hopefully I get into it quickly and can be able to fight for the win. My big goal is to become a World champion of Rallycross one day. This is another step towards that goal, and I’ll do my best and try to use this chance well,” states the young Swede before heading to Las Vegas.
