BRC: Season start cancelled

Category: Miscellaneous, News Posted 27.02.14 11:11 by

Round 1 of the Belgian Rallycross Championship (BRC) has yesterday been called off after a court decision in Tongeren.

Due to a court case concerning the legitimacy of the organising body Belgische Rallycross Vereniging VZW (BRCV) to run events at the almost 45 years old Duivelsbergcircuit the season kick-off of the 2014 Belgian Rallycross Championship (BRC) at Maasmechelen has been cancelled at the eleventh hour.

Claimed BRCV President Michel Vigneron: “The target of our association BRCV is to organise Rallycross events at the Duivelsbergcircuit, no matter if at a national, international, European or even ‘open-door days’ level. After a request of the opposing party [a group around 1976 Belgian Rallycross Champion and former Clerk of the Course Jean Filippini] the judge of the court at Tongeren has refused us the rights to organise our first 2014 competition on March 1 and 2. The 170 drivers who have entered for the regional and international championship races are the great losers of this dispute. But we also have to disappoint numerous regular spectators and fans of our events. The future of our club is in danger now and we sincerely hope that everybody who is interested in the motorsport of Rallycross will be on our side to back us during the difficult times we are facing.”
