Hansen Motorsport has announced that Kevin Hansen will graduate to RallyX Lites in his native Sweden and the RX Lites support category of the WorldRX series.
Double European JRX winner (2012 and 2013) Kevin Hansen is going to participate with one of the single specification SuperCar Lites vehicles on national Swedish and international World series level. The youngest member of the Hansen clan from Götene in Sweden is excited by the challenge of progressing into the four-wheel drive 310bhp formula for 2014. “The class is growing really fast and there are some big names that have entered, so it will be very competitive,” said Hansen and continued: “The cars are easy to maintain and they are capable of doing a lot of kilometres before they need rebuilding. We looked at other options for this year, but the Lites came out on top.”
After test drives at the Swedish Strängnäs Motorstadion Hansen Junior claimed: “The Lites car is certainly the most powerful thing I have ever driven. When I first tested it I was a bit nervous, but my long time friend Kevin Eriksson [son of OMSE boss Andréas Eriksson] sat in with me, he has a lot of experience with those Lites. Straight away I felt really comfortable and at one with the car. I always set myself high goals. But to start with at least, I want to race without putting heaps of pressure on myself. I am very focused on doing as well as I can, I always want to fight for wins.”
The first round of the Swedish championship takes place at the Knutstorp Ring in the deepest south of Sweden on May 10 where the offspring of 14 times European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen will make his Lites debut. He will miss the first two rounds of the RX Lites World championship support category, as he is unable to race internationally until after his 16th birthday, on May 28th. He then will join the series at Kouvola in Finland at the end of June. “Since I can’t race in RX Lites until after my birthday we will just do as many of those rounds as possible. I’m really excited as this is an amazing championship to be part of. Of course, none of this would be possible without the continued support of my fantastic sponsors,” concluded Kevin Hansen.
