With the second round of the highly competitive ‘RallyX On Ice’ set get underway at the Hundfjället Väggen in Sälen, Sweden this weekend (26.02.16); the winter Rallycross series has announced plenty of new names and hot prospects ready to do battle for the four round Scandinavian series.
The organisers have this morning announced that the young Global Rallycross Championship prospect, the 23-year-old US driver Austin Dyne will join the series to make his debut on the ice in Sweden. Dyne, who represented Bryan Herta Motorsport in the GRC series has, despite his young age, gained a very consistent on track record. With podiums in both Supercar and Supercar Lites in the US.
“I’ve come to Sweden the last two winters to drive a Lites car. Andréas Eriksson had me come out before my first season in a Supercar in GRC and I learned a lot for him. Aswell as this, last winter with my teammate in the GRC Patrik Sandell – who also taught me a lot. So I feel pretty good about my chances and it’s Rallycross so I guess we’ll see what happens” said Dyne about his RallyX On Ice chances.
Another new name to look out for is the Finnish driver Miki Weckström. Weckström has a background in Formula car racing and his merits include, the Formula Renault Eurocup. Weckström will get set for his first ever Rallycross race.
“We’ve tested for two days with the SET-promotion in Finland and that’s my only experience in Rallycross so far. I have no real expectations for my debut, we’re here to learn the discipline and the objective is to drive Supercar Lites in the US this upcoming season,” said Weckström, who will become the second Finn together with Niclas Grönholm to compete in RallyX On Ice.
The second round gets underway this Friday.
