WRX: Ekstrom excels

Category: News, WRX Posted 07.05.16 19:25 by

Day two done: the EKSRX driver secures top with relentless pace, and is the front runner leading into tomorrow’s final during his DTM double header weekend.

Mattias Ekstrom has continued his day one form in Hockenheim. In what is so far a repeat of Montalegre round one – the Swede leads the overnight standings following a sensational Q4 R4 victory.

Johan Kristoffersson continued his good form, and now lies behind Ekstrom and marginally in front of Timmy Hansen. EKSRX drivers Heikkinen lies in fourth place.

Ekstrom having finished second in Q3, leads with 187 points as we head into tomorrow morning’s semi-finals and finals.

A late charge from Petter Solberg, with a win in Q3 had hotted things up in Hockenheim. The reigning champion winning race three, and setting the fastest time.

The third heat results were as follows:

1. Petter Solberg

2. Mattias Ekstrom

3. Sebastien Loeb

The biggest story of the afternoon involved Timmy Hansen. A red flag was shown in his race during Q3. The race being stopped because of a huge engine fire in the young Swede’s 208. Suprisingly, the team were able to get his car back out for race 1 of Q4 – which resulted in an unbelievable win (and a second place fastest time) for Hansen, a result which keeps him in contention.
