The apple and the tree

Category: April, ERC, News Posted 18.04.12 23:44 by

Kenneth Hansen’s second son Kevin is preparing himself for the coming ‘JRX Cup’ series, scheduled to start at the end of June in Hell.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – claims at least a traditional proverb. During the Norwegian ERC round at the Lånkebanen in Hell the by then 14 years old Kevin Hansen, the second son of 14 times European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen and 1994 European 1400 Cup winner Susann Hansen (under her maiden name Bergvall), has to prove if he can match the old saying.

Over the last couple of years Kevin Hansen has successfully participated in Karting events, but was always keen to follow the footsteps of his father and to focus on a Rallycross career. His older brother Timmy has occasionally competed in Rallycross events, but sees his own motorsport career by climbing up the ladder of single-seater racing on pure tarmac circuits. When the idea about the ‘JRX Cup’ [Junior Rallycross Cup] series was born little Kevin became immediately interested and was the first name on the list of potential entries. The series is open to teenagers between 14 and 18 years of age and it looks as if the contender with the famous name will be the youngest of all the youngsters. Kevin is currently 13, on May 28 he will reach the age to match the rules set up for JRX.

Only a couple of days ago Kevin Hansen took part in a training camp organised by the Swedish ASN ‘Svenska Bilsportförbundet’ at the Strängnäs Motorstadion. Driving a Suzuki Swift Sport RS from the British Rallycross Championship’s one-make series the Rallycrosser in the making was able to undergo an extensive test-drive programme. After almost 100 laps in the car Hansen junior is now with great pleasure looking forward to his first ‘JRX Cup’ round, to be held in conjunction with the Norwegian European round on June 23 and 24.
