The Hungarian ERC event ended with Andreas Bakkerud celebrating, the reigning European champion drove to his second victory of the season.

Andreas Bakkerud won in Hungary, a result that saw Set Promotion taking back the top of the podium after a one race of absence. “Andreas drove possibly the best race of his career so far. He started from the third position and had a brilliant start. His line into the first corner was excellent and gave him the lead which he kept until the end,” said a joyful team manager Jussi Pinomäki.

Out of the team’s other drivers Fin Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme became eighth, while Russian Timur Shigaboutdinov (RUS) got stuck in the C final. Both Leppihalme and Shigaboutdinov drive in Renault Clios, Bakkerud in a Renault Twingo. “Leppihalme was in the pole position of the B final and there earned a place for the A final. There was a small crash in the first corner and he spun and broke his rear wheel. He eventually finished, but was last in the final. Timur crashed in the start of the C final and had to retire,” reported Pinomäki.

In the overall standings of the Super1600s category Bakkerud (now 74 points) extended the lead. Leppihalme (61 points) lost his second place to Dane Ulrik Linnemann, who finished second in Hungary and now leads from Leppihalme by one point. “Of course I have mixed feelings. On one hand I am happy for Andreas’ performance, but on the other hand I am disappointed with the other drivers. Now we have to analyse what went wrong with them,” stated Pinomäki.
