Basseng wins CZ shoot-out

Category: Miscellaneous, News Posted 19.11.12 14:32 by

FIA GT1 World Champion German Marc Basseng claimed the Czech champions meeting ‘Global Assistance Setkání mistrů’ at Sosnová for the second time in SuperCars while homeboy Stanislav Šusta won the Super1600s class.

Just one week after the 2nd edition of the ‘Race of Austrian Champions’ at Greinbach a similar but much older Rallysprint type event was held at Sosnová in the Czech Republic, the 11th runnings of the ‘Setkání mistrů’ [Meeting of Champions]. Like in Austria competitors from Rallycross, Rallysport and Autocross were invited to this shoot-out at the Autodrom Česká Lípa venue. The event featured 2012 FIA GT1 World Champion [recently winning the title together with his German compatriot and teammate Markus Winkelhock in one of René Münnich’s Mercedes SLS] Marc Basseng, the new Irish FIA Super2000 Rally World Champion Craig Breen, and 2012 ERC winner in TouringCars Swede Anton Marklund as star entries.

Craig Been, a regular Ford Fiesta campaigner, showed superb driving of a lend Škoda Fabia, but was eventually beaten by master of the house, Czech 2009 Junior World Rally Champion Martin Prokop with a Ford Fiesta in the ‘4WD WRC’ class. In ‘Rallycross SuperCars’ Marc Basseng made good use of the older Mk1 Škoda Fabia of Münnich Motorsport to beat his boss René Münnich in the Mk2 Fabia that the German internet entrepreneur had driven throughout the 2011 ERC. And in ‘Rallycross Super1600s’ victory fell prey to Czech Stanislav Šusta who beat his compatriot and make colleague Zdeněk Čermák to second place.
