RX: World series approved

Category: ERC, News Posted 27.09.13 20:30 by

The meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, which was held today in the Croatian town of Dubrovnik, has approved the creation of a FIA World Rallycross Championship.

Today’s FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) meeting at Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea released this official statement: “Following the proposal by the Promoter of the FIA European Rallycross Championship, the WMSC has approved the creation of a new FIA World Rallycross Championship from 2014, on the condition the calendar is based on a total of 11 or 12 events, with nine or 10 European events plus one event in Asia or Africa and one event on the American continent. The formats of the FIA European Rallycross Championships for the support categories, TouringCar and Super1600, are maintained, with the calendar comprising the European events in the World Championship. The format of the European Championship for the flagship category, SuperCar, will be adapted and concentrated over five of the 10 European events in the World Championship. This will also have a specific classification for non-permanent drivers not entered in the entirety of the World Championship.”

The 2014 dates and regulations have not yet been revealed, but need to be approved by the next WMSC meeting in December. As we understand the currently available information there will be another FIA European Rallycross Championship series, to be run alongside the new FIA World Rallycross Championship. The championship for SuperCar campaigners will be revised to run a five events schedule; hence five of the World series rounds that take place in Europe. This is to clearly separate the European and the World events. The drivers who are rated to be permanent World championship competitors are not entitled to score European championship points. All nine or ten events held in Europe will be rounds of the World championship. They are open to all drivers holding the necessary licence and enter the races with eligible cars. Both, the Super1600s and TouringCars category will carry on having their own FIA European Rallycross Championship titles, but can only race in the World events to be run in Europe.
