Young Swede Magda Andersson took the opening round of the 2016 FIA European TouringCar Rallycross Championship. Magnussen and Gundersen conpleted the podium.
Kevin Hansen wasn’t the only young Swede to win in Belgium. The Ford Fiesta campaigner Magda Andersson came back from the dead, having had a rough start of the event on Saturday. Andersson pushed on regardless throughout the event, setting the fastest time during Q4 on Sunday.
Starting on the second row of the first semi-final, Andersson found herself back in contention for a high scoring weekend. Upon start, the semi-final was immediately red flagged- when Kjetil Larsen rolled his car after he made contact with Danny De Beuckelaer. During the restart, Andersson pushed on to finish the race second behind David Nordgård. Nordgard was the one to beat, having led after three Touring Car qualifying rounds in Belgium, and the Norwegian took day one ahead of Daniel Lundh and Danny De Beuckelaer.
The Touring Car final saw Nordgård get the better start but soon after the first corner he was forced to retire (DNF) giving Andersson the opportunity to go into the lead. Andersson resisted the pressure of Magnussen and won her first Touring Car event. Fredrik Magnussen and Ben-Philip Gundersen joined her on the podium.
