American takes last heat

Category: ERC, June, News Posted 03.06.12 12:37 by

The final round of heats is won by Tanner Foust (SuperCars). Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud is back on top in the Super1600s, Irishman Derek Tohill regains top spot in the TouringCars.

Tanner Foust bagged the fastest race time in Heat 3. Taking his race with ease, Foust took an early lead and set a time almost two seconds faster than the rest of the SuperCars pack. British Monster Energy driver Liam Doran took second quickest, narrowly winning his race over Alexander Hvaal. Timur Timerzyanov strategically pulled back from the front pack in this race, and did not finish (already securing pole position for the A final) allowing teammate Hvaal a fighting chance of gaining a good time. Michaël De Keersmaecker finishes in the top three, and secures a position in the front three of the A final. Liam Doran, Alexander Hvaal and Mats Lysen will also feature. Davy Jeanney will start on pole in the B final, “Mr Maximum Attack” Guttorm Lindefjell starting alongside him. A C final will also run, of which Swede Peter Hedström will head.

Kevin Procter was among the non-finishers. The Brit suffered a broken driveshaft, and this adds to the monumental amount of bad luck he has had this weekend.

In the Super1600s class “Mr Baby Blue” Andreas Bakkerud took the heat. Bakkerud beat close contender Ulrik Linnemann in a fierce battle during their race. Krzysztof Skorupski is second fastest, Linnemann third overall. The Dane starts the Super1600s A final in pole position, next to Skorupski and Bakkerud. Bakkerud’s teammate Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme starts the B final on pole.

Derek Tohill once again triumphs in TouringCars. A win in Heat 2 and 3 secures his pole position in the A final. The Irishman was nearly three seconds faster than closest finisher Roman Častoral. Častoral’s second ensures second place in the A final. Koen Pauwels gains third in Heat 3, and will start third in the A final.
