WRX: Topi wins, Hollywood leads

It looked as if Petter ‘Hollywood’ Solberg would be able to win his second WorldRX round after Portugal. But in sight of the chequered flag it was Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen, Timmy Hansen and Johan Kristoffersson who eventually all passed the Citroën driver, that limped to the finish with broken rear suspension of his DS3 SuperCar.

Finn Toomas Heikkinen (VW Polo Mk5) wins the Final of Round 6 of WorldRX at Mettet in Belgium from Swede Timmy Hansen (Peugeot 208) and Hansen’s fellow-countryman Johan Kristoffersson (VW Polo Mk5). Norwegian Petter Solberg (Citroën DS3), who finished with broken rear suspension in fourth place, takes over the lead in the championship standings from Latvian Reinis Nitišs (Ford Fiesta Mk7 ST) who did not make it through the Semi-Finals. WRX: Marklund leads Mettet

Three VW Polo Mk5 drivers are on top of the overnight point standings at the end of Day 1 of WorldRX Belgium at Mettet after Anton Marklund and Johan Kristoffersson have each won a qualifying heat. However, due to a tie Toomas Heikkinen has to share third place with Audi A1 campaigner Robin Larsson.

WRX: From scratch to victory

Swede Mattias Ekström finished Day 2 of the ‘Magic Weekend’ at Höljes in great style, claiming a convincing victory over the two Norwegians Andreas Bakkerud and Petter Solberg while championship leader Latvian Reinis Nitišs finished fourth.

Höljes: Racing all-rounder Swede Mattias Ekström (Audi S1) wins WorldRX Round 5 on home soil with an advantage of 10 seconds from the two Norwegians Andreas Bakkerud (Ford Fiesta Mk7 ST) and Petter Solberg (Citroën DS3), who both reached the chequered flag with flat tyres. (EL)
