Foust dominates heat one

Category: April, ERC, News Posted 09.04.12 12:48 by

The first heat got underway as planned this morning, American Tanner Foust built on quick times gained yesterday to finish almost two seconds faster than the rest of the pack. Elsewhere, “Mr Baby Blue” Andreas Bakkerud took first heat of Super1600, Czech TouringCar driver Roman Častoral  was quickest in his class.

Tanner Foust was triumphant in the first wet heat that ran as planned this morning. Foust was almost two seconds faster than second place finisher, Norwegian Mats Lysen and Swedish fellow Clio driver, Stig-Olov Walfridsson behind. Foust looked to have improved his performance claiming that it was good for the team to test the car’s wet setup. “It’s good to get some runs in the wet, and the setup has got better since yesterday, we just need to keep going now,” said Foust. The quickest home driver was Andy Scott. Scott put in a great performance, eventually exiting the Joker Lap marginally in front of French challenger Davy Jeanney and Hansen Motorsport driver, Norwegian Alexander Hvaal. Liam Doran did not have so much luck. The local driver was able to set the fastest individual lap time, but slipped up in the wet conditions, causing his race time to only place him in 11th position. Father Pat Doran was unable to start the heat, this due to turbo issues that occurred in this morning’s warm-up session. Svein Roger Andersen, Morten Bermingrud and Julian Godfrey were all non-finishers, the latter receiving a three second penalty for a jump start.

Andreas Bakkerud narrowly beat team mate Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme to the quickest race time in the Super1600 class. 2011 ERC runner-up, Ulrik Linnemann finished third fastest, although almost six seconds slower than both Set Promotion drivers.

Roman Častoral finished fastesr than Irishman Derek Tohill and Finnish BMW 120 driver Jari Järvenpää. Norwegian David Nordgård fourth fastest. Both Častoral and Tohill finished five seconds faster than the remaining top five.
