After a successful weekend in Austria Finnish Set Promotion team keeps its ERC lead, with Bakkerud alone on top and Leppihalme second.

Set Promotion appeared in three different competitions over the weekend. The European Rallycross Championship continued in Austria and the Finnish Rallycross championship in Kouvola, while the team also had one of its cars participating in a Rally event at Jyväskylä.

Set Promotion had won the two previous ERC events, but this time the winner came frome somewher else. Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud (Renault Twingo Mk2) finished second in the race that took place in Greinbach, Finn Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme (Renault Clio Mk2) came fourth and Russian Timur Shigaboudtinov (Renault Clio Mk2) finished 11th. The winner was Ulrik Linnemann from Denmark.

“Of course I am feeling a little bit disappointed, but on the other hand this was a kind of defensive victory after all. Sure, the expectations were higher, especially since Andreas started from the pole. Maybe everyone was lacking something, including the team. To put it simple, this time we did not deserve any more than this,” pondered team manager Jussi Pinomäki.

The team worked hard with all three cars throughout the weekend. In the first start of the C final Shigaboudtinov rolled his Clio, but luckily the team managed to sort it out before the re-start. The Russian driver won that start and a place in the B final. Leppihalme made it to the A final after a good run in the B final.

In the overall standings Set Promotion’s double lead still remains. Bakkerud is on top of the order, four points ahead of Leppihalme. “The scoreboard looks good. Now we will carry on and try to return to our own level in the next event,” said Pinomäki.
