Kevin Hansen, the now 14 years old offspring of 14 times European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen, has won his first ever Rallycross event.
It was only last Monday that Kevin, the second son [the older is circuit racer Timmy] of 14 times ERC winner Kenneth Hansen and his wife Susann [in 1994 she won the European 1400cc Rallycross Cup under her maiden name Bergvall], had reached the age of 14. The former successful Karting teenager is set to become a Rallycross driver now, taking part in the MSA British Junior Rallycross Championship with a Suzuki Swift as well as in the European JRX Cup series with a “Citroën DS3 Special”. While he was not old enough to compete in the first two rounds of the British series Hansen junior is currently in Northern Ireland where Round 3 was today held at the Nutts Corner Motorsport Centre near Belfast and Round 4 is due to run at the same venue tomorrow [The Queen’s Diamond Jubillee Bank Holiday Monday in the UK].
Hansen Motorsport informed us this evening that Kevin has won his first ever Rallycross today. “Kevin told us on the phone that he was laying second in the final race and was dog-hounding the leader, who was not able to keep cool when Kevin kept him under pressure. When his opponent made a mistake Kevin was able to grab the lead and eventually the victory,” claimed the proud mother Susann Hansen. About an hour ago the youngster himself pointed out the following on his Facebook page: “I just WON my first Rallycross race!!!!! It’s just crazy!! Thanks to all my sponsors, Sachs, CDX, Pro-Imp, Autopoint and many more!! It’s just awesome!!!! The team was just the best, thanks everyone! :D”
