Former single-seater racer Timmy Hansen will head to Lydden Hill this weekend for the first round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship.

Cooper Tires backed Timmy Hansen has spent the winter months preparing for the new-look RallycrossRX championship and is ready to take on the best in the world in his Hansen Motorsport run Citroën DS3. “I feel so ready”, said Hansen. “The new RallycrossRX championship is really exciting to be involved with and I can’t wait to start racing. The competition will be very fierce.”

Hansen, who in 2011 was one of only twelve drivers worldwide to be selected in for the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy will be starting in his first full season of Rallycross at Lydden Hill. “I am in a very capable car, we know it is a proven winner. The chassis I am using is the one that 9-time World Rally Champion Sébastian Loeb won the Los Angeles X Games with last year, if it was good enough for him its good enough for me”, said the young Swede, who will be supported by Pro-Imp, CDX, Sachs and Citroën.

“My sponsors have always been great to me, and it’s brilliant that here in Rallycross I can hopefully return their support with some really good coverage, and the best way to do that is to win.” Hansen has moved to Rallycross following a successful career in circuit racing, winning in many formulas on his way up the ladder. “Last season in Formula Renault Eurocup I felt that I was on top of my game but the car wasn’t always great so we struggled to get results. I wanted to move up, we looked at lots of different options but Rallycross is the very best decision. The car is right, so it is just down to me”, he said. Team principle of Hansen Motorsport, Kenneth Hansen said: “Timmy is a very good driver and it’s great to have him in the team. The aim is to win, we are not racing to make up the numbers.”
