Crosskart ace Lukas Walfridsson borrowed the Renault Clio Mk3 SuperCar of his uncle Stig-Olov Walfridsson to claim victory in his Rallycross debut.

As last weekends Northern European Zone Rallycross Championship event at the Vilkyčiai Trasa in Lithuania counted also for the NEZ series of the Crosskart drivers Swede Lukas Walfridsson grabbed the opportunity to borrow the Renault Clio Mk3 SuperCar of his uncle “Stecka” Walfridsson to take part in both competitions. The son of Lars-Erik Walfridsson had won the first 2012 NEZ Crosskart event and entered the Lituanian round as leader of the series. However, the Walfridsson clan found it a good chance into the bargain for Lukas to drive his first ever Rallycross event and, thereby, it became a very busy Sunday for the 19-year-old.

The Crosskart event looked good, after setting the fastest times in all three qualifying heats the youngster from Sunne started the A final from the pole position, but had to throw in his towel when a spark plug gave up. In the Rallycross races it was the other way round, the qualification ended with a fourth place of the SuperCars category. While leading his first heat the transmission of the Clio all of a sudden produced problems and forced its driver into retirement. Helmia Motorsport’s “villein” Sven-Inge Neby and his team was able to fix the car in time for the second runs and after the third heat Lukas Walfridsson had ensured himself a place in the second row of the A final grid. Here the Renault driver produced a very good start, he went as second into the first corner, but eventually it was his well done Joker Lap that earned him the victory in his Rallycross debut. “His driving style was very calm and self-controlled. Now we look forward what the future brings,” said his proud father, former Swedish Rallycross Champion [1979] and Rally ace Lars-Erik Walfridsson after the event. It is expected that his son Lukas is moving from Crosskart racing to Rallycross soon.
