The final round of the Swedish Rallycross Championship at the Kinnekulle Ring will see both Thomas Rådström and Kenneth Hansen back in Rallycross action.
The Finale of the SRC is the highlight of the Swedish national Rallycross season and differs from the “normal” rounds of the series by attracting also drivers that usually do not take part in the previous events. This time former WRC ace Thomas Rådström will feature in ‘Helga 1’, the Škoda Fabia Mk1 formerly owned by double ERC winner Lars Larsson and Belgian Jochen Coox. The SuperCar, last seen during the Swedish ERC round at Höljes driven by Per-Gunnar “P.-G.” Andersson to eighth place overall in the A final and now the spare car of Peter Hedström, will be available for “Rådis” at the track near Götene the coming Saturday.
As Götene is the hometown of Kenneth Hansen, the organising Götene MK his club and the Clerk of the Course his older brother Erik, the 14 times European Rallycross Champion has a special relation to the Kinnekulle Ring. Kenny is going to drive the new Citroën DS3 SuperCar used during the last couple of rounds by ERC leader Timur Timerzyanov. “It will be lethal,” said Hansen with sparkling eyes. “I do not intend to spare any gunpowder and will certainly have a lot of fun to give the spectators value for their money.”
While the Hansen Motorsport principal is ready for a “small comeback” his Norwegian team youngster Alexander Hvaal had to withdraw his Kinnekulle entry due to severe illness [see our updated news of August 30]. As Hvaal is said to be possibly out of the game for the rest of the 2012 season it could well be that Kenneth Hansen is going to become the stand-in for the 20-year-old and, thereby, will be able to compete in two more ERC rounds [Finland and Germany] himself. So far the most successful driver in Rallycross history has done 249 ERC rounds, Kouvola could make the ‘Golden 250’ complete…
Other SuperCar drivers on the entry list for Kinnekulle are: Stig-Olov “Stecka” Walfridsson with his Renault Clio Mk3, Johan Larsson in the Alexander Hvaal Citroën C4 [Hvaal was meant to drive a DS3 of Hansen Motorsport here], Mats Öhman in the ex-Hunsbedt Volvo S40 Mk2 and Peter Hedström in the former Jernberg Škoda Fabia Mk2. With the two Norwegians Stein Egil Jenssen (Ford Focus Mk2) and Tore Kristoffersen (Ford Fiesta Mk6) as well as Swede Tomas Andersson (BMW 1 E81) the event has a total of nine entries for the SuperCars class on offer.
The other car categories are ‘Super Nationell’ (24 entries), ‘Nationell 2400’ (24 entries), TouringCars (5 entries), Super1600s (3 entries, including “Rally Kalle” aka former Ford RS200 driver Dan Andersson), the Swedish Junior Rallycross Championship class (22 entries) and the JRX Cup, here represented by Kevin Hansen and Magda Andersson.
Update of September 9: ERC24 learned today that Johan Larsson is going to drive the Citroën DS3 SuperCar that was meant to be used by Alex Hvaal. The car is the former Timur Timerzyanov machinery and the very DS3 driven to victory in this year’s X Games by Rally World Champion Sébastien Loeb. The X Games winning DS3 is still in Red Bull colours, but the stickers of the energy drink have been removed.
