BRC: Marklund wins kick-off

In the preparation programme for his 2013 FIA European Rallycross Championship assault Swede Anton Marklund competed in the BRC opener at Maasmechelen to claim victory from the homeboys.

Swede Anton Marklund (VW Polo Mk5) wins the 1st round of the 2013 Belgian Rallycross Championship at Maasmechelen from Belgian Patrick Van Mechelen (Ford Fiesta Mk7) and Dutch-Italian Jos Kuijpers (Ford Focus Mk3).

With the Belgian Rallycross Championship kick-off at Maasmechelen the international 2013 Rallycross season has started today. Patrick Van Mechelen made good use of the ex-Jos Kuijpers Ford Fiesta Mk7 to set the fastest practice time in SuperCars, while Koen Pauwels drove the ex-Andy Scott Ford Focus Mk2 to victory in the first SuperCars qualifying heat.

Family ties: Rallycross lady Camilla Antonsen is set to Rally in 2013, the reigning Norwegian Rallycross Champion in SuperCars and 2010 FIA NEZ winner of the 4WD category will be navigated by her just 14 years old niece Anniken Storsveen. The teenager is the daughter of Rally driver Morten Storsveen, who is married to a sister of Camilla as well as a cousin to Petter and Henning Solberg.

Jussi-Petteri “Juspe” Leppihalme had set his focus on a 2013 SuperCar programme, but according to the Finnish press is not able to get the necessary budget together. Therefore, the Rallycross future of the 2012 ERC third overall in Super1600s is still uncertain.

“Mister Rallycross” Martin Schanche: “I think Petter [Solberg] is going to win the European Rallycross title this year, but it will hardly be just a walkover for him. It is all about tough fights 2mm away from each other into the first corner. Much important is to understand the whole system. One must have pointy elbows as well as staying cool where it is needed. All decisions will be taken within a 1/100s of a second. For the series the participation of Petter is very positive, but he must always be on top of the competition and race in every event’s Final.”
