Chase after another ERC gold medal continues at Dreux in France for “Mr. Baby Blue” Andreas Bakkerud.
This weekend there is the time for yet another European Rallycross Championship round, to be held in the French town of Dreux. Andreas Bakkerud currently holds the second place in the ERC point standings after the first race in England, three weeks ago. “The venue in France suits me very well. The track is technically demanding with lots of fast turns. Together with my team Set Promotion we were there for three testing days recently, and now we know exactly what set-ups we need for the cars. They expect about 20,000 spectators and there have been 44 competitors entered in our class,” said Bakkerud the other day.
Start Problems in England
In England Andreas had big problems producing good starts with his Renault Twingo, but he has completed a very good test-drive earlier this week. “Yes, the car is much better to start now. As the starts are incredibly important in Rallycross this test was absolutely necessary. I started the day doing the sprint from standstill to 100km/h in rather poor 6.1 seconds, but completed the tests with strong 5.3 seconds. So this seems very promising,” claimed Andreas during a phonecall from France.
Andreas goes on with plan B
Due to lack of sponsorship for the 2012 season Bakkerud has decided to sell backing group memberships to supporting companies in his hometown of Bergen. “These companies will be so-called ‘supporters’ and should help me to drive the entire ERC. I reckon that I have to sell 100 memberships. However, after five sale days we sold almost 30 memberships. It is very nice to see that there are so many people willing to help me towards a new European gold medal, and I feel very fortunate to live in such a patriotic town”, stated the Norwegian.
New website launched
