Townsend Bell, a 7-times Indy 500 competitor and current American Le Mans Series driver, will make his Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) debut at the Munich X Games this weekend. Bell is set to drive the ‘Star Car’ Ford Fiesta Mk7 of the OMSE2 team.

Pastrana Racing has announced that reigning European Rallycross Champion Timur Timerzyanov will drive Pastrana’s Dodge Dart SuperCar in the Global RallyCross Championship event of the Munich X Games on June 29 and 30. The Russian will replace the American, who is unable to participate due to other commitments. Pastrana’s return to the GRC will be at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July.

On June 11 ERC24 revealed on its Facebook that Swede Mattias Ekström is going to drive the second Marklund Motorsport VW Polo Mk5 SuperCar in the Munich X Games. Today it was released that the son of ex-Rallycrosser Bengt Ekström will also participate in the Swedish RallycrossRX round at Höljes. Ekström has not driven in a true Rallycross competition yet, but has claimed four overall victories in as many ‘Race of Champion’ (ROC) events between 2005 and 2009.

1984: Apropos Pikes Peak…

After the inaugural race in 1916 the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) was for many a year an all-American affair, till in 1984 saw its first European competitors in “Mister Rallycross” Martin Schanche and “French Volcano” Michèle Mouton.

RX: “Go hard – or go home!”

Liam Doran won the Norwegian round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in Hell, after a fierce battle with Petter Solberg in Heat 3 and a rather poor tenth place in the Intermediate Classification.

Round 5 of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Hell in Norway was claimed by Liam Doran ahead of Timur Timerzyanov, Davy Jeanney and Alexander Hvaal. Pole sitter Andreas Bakkerud lost the lead after about half the distance with a flat tyre while Peter Hedström did not finish due to engine failure.
