Belgian Patrick Van Mechelen (Ford Fiesta Mk7) won the 1st Heat of the French RCE round at Essay from his compatriot Koen Pauwels (Ford Focus Mk2). Fastest French driver was Alain Heu (Citroën C4) on 3rd place, French 1993 ERC winner Jean-Luc Pailler bagged 4th place, and Briton Kevin Procter (Ford Focus Mk2) finished 5th.

The SuperCars class of the 2013 Finnish Rallycross Championship opener at the Kemoran Moottorirata in Veteli was won today by Ari Perkiömäki in his Ford Fiesta Mk6 from Janne Kanerva (Citroën C4) and Joni-Pekka Rajala (Mitsubishi Lancer E6). Victory of the SRC category was bagged by Peter Helenius in the VW Scirocco Mk3.

RIP: We at ERC24 are very sad to learn about the death of Klaus Stich who died yesterday at the age of 72, while being ill and under treatment in a hospital of his hometown of Siegburg. The former top-ranking army officer of the German Bundeswehr was for almost 25 years a keen Rallycross official, for both the German ASN (DMSB) as well as the FIA Off-Road Commission.

While Johan Kristoffersson won the SC demo run at Strängnäs victory of the Swedish Rallycross Championship classes were claimed by Daniel Wall in SuperNationals, “Fidde” in SuperNationals 2400 and Tommy Johansson among the Juniors.

As revealed on our ERC24 Facebook already on May 10 and officially confirmed today double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz is set to race the second VW Polo Mk5 SuperCar of the Swedish Marklund Motorsport Team in the Global X Games of his native Spain, to be held in Barcelona on Whit Sunday, May 19.
