ERC24 has just been informed from Maasmechelen in Belgium that Mister André Reul, for many a year the Chairman of the Belgian Rallycross Association BRCV, has suddenly passed away today. May he Rest In Peace!

Swedish youngster Anton Marklund today released the name of his teammate for the Global X Games in Brazil. American racer and 2004 ‘Indy 500’ winner Buddy Rice shall drive the second 560bhp VW Polo Mk5 Rallycross SuperCar of Marklund Motorsport in Foz do Iguaçu, April 18 to 21.

For more than 30 years some people keep on claiming that the motorsport of Rallycross owes its existence to either a 1963 Rallysprint-type event held at the car parks of Brands Hatch Circuit, or to the outbreak of the foot-and-mouth disease in the UK – or even to both. All utter nonsense! Rallycross was born at Lydden Hill, already nine months before the 1967 RAC Rally was cancelled due to FMD. And it was not born for the BBC ‘Grandstand’ cameras, as often claimed, but for an ITV programme called ‘World of Sport’.

Dodge and SRT Motorsports today announced they’re teaming up with Travis Pastrana again for a second season of competition in the Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) series. Pastrana Racing will now field two Dodge Dart for 2013, Bryce Menzies will drive the second car. The duo is set to drive their Red Bull and Discount Tire sponsored Dodge Dart Rallycross SuperCars in the Global X Games season opener in Brazil.

Canadian former Snowmobile champion, Dirt Track racer and NASCAR driver Steve Arpin has confirmed on his Facebook that he is set to do a full 2013 Global RallyCross Championship/Global X Games season with OlsbergsMSE. Arpin will race a 2012 Ford Fiesta Mk7 SuperCar in OMSE2, a satelite team to the main OMSE squad. The Canadian has been to the Ford testing grounds at Lommel in Belgium recently to test the car prior to the X Games season start in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, April 18 to 21.

Today in São Paulo in Brazil a two-car ‘X Team Mitsubishi Racing’ has been confirmed to race in the Global X Games rounds. The two Brazilian drivers will be ex-F1 pilot and current NASCAR star Nelson Piquet Junior, who is set to compete already at Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, while Rally Raid ace Guilherme “Guiga” Spinelli is going to join “Nelsinho” in Barcelona.

American web-radio man Bill Wood talked to ex-Formula One racer Nelson Piquet Jr. about the RallyCross plans of the Brazilian. Piquet said that the deal was brought to him and he’d only have time to do four or five GRC events including the Global X Games in Brazil, Spain and Los Angeles. He said he possibly could add the non X Games New Hampshire GRC round to that schedule. The current NASCAR driver is set to race a Mitsubishi Lancer E10 prepared for RallyCross by Rhys Millen Racing.
