Swedish based Finn Marko Jokinen has revealed plans to make a long awaited return to National and European Rallycross in 2012 and 2013.
ERC24 spotted a familiar face around the paddock this weekend. Finnish driver Marko Jokinen last competed here in Höljes in 2007 where he drove his Peugeot 207 SuperCar finishing 14th in a hugely competitive SuperCar pack featuring likes of Lars Larsson and Kenneth Hansen. The Finn finds himself spectating this year but is scheming his return to top flight Rallycross. “I have been out for a few years now and think it is time that I return to Rallycross, because I can’t stand being away from it,” tells Jokinen.
The Peugeot campaigner ensured himself the 2008 Finnish title, by claiming two victories in Kouvola and Oulu, and four other top point finishes in his 207. Now the Finn wants in and is planning to return as soon as he can – aiming for a start this year at the Finnish round in September and the Swedish championship finale at Kinnekulle during the same month.
“I hope to return in September with the Peugeot 207 which is currently being rebuilt in Estonia, providing all goes to plan with the car, September looks good. We also have a SuperCar project on the table right at this moment for something for next year which we are getting very excited about, but I cannot tell you anything yet because nothing is final,” teases the Finn.
